Do you need to refinish your dock?

Docks need maintenance but sometimes is not enough.  One of the main problems in South Florida is the high humidity and rainfall that the dock is exposed to compounded with the saline from the water.  A deteriorated dock can become unsafe and hazardous.   Extreme Decks can strip the old decking boards and structurally enhance your dock before rebuilding it.   We like to recommend using ipe tropical hardwood for docks because Ipe is the perfect outdoor wood since its density makes it virtually impenetrable to mold and insects, which means that with some easy maintenance like occasional oiling it will last for over 35 years (and with no oiling it still lasts, just turns a silver hue). In the hot Florida sun it was also important that it would feel cool when walking barefoot.  The last thing you want when coming off a boat, is an unbearably hot dock.  The great thing about ipe is that it will not splinter, which is also important for bare feet.
